The Clean Energy Council has welcomed the announcement from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) to provide $17 million for collaborative research projects to accelerate the development of exciting renewable energy technologies.

Clean Energy Council Chief Executive Kane Thornton said the $17 million investment will leverage substantial contributions from private and public institutions, delivering a combined investment of $54 million in solar, storage, marine energy and biogas technologies.

“These links between research institutions and industry are the kinds of partnerships that are required to drive Australian technology innovation and develop a world-class clean energy sector,” Mr Thornton said.

“ARENA has hundreds of projects in its portfolio, and is leading the next wave of home-grown innovation that will power our future prosperity.”

Mr Thornton said the Clean Energy Council was also pleased to see the appointment of a strong new board for ARENA, ensuring sound governance and strategic direction into the future.

“The new faces include some very experienced and respected industry professionals, who are well-placed to provide considered stewardship through the next era of the organization,” he said.

“The strength of the new board and the recent projects supported by the organization are a clear reminder of ARENA’s important role in developing the technologies of the future.

“The renewable energy industry congratulates the new ARENA board directors and looks forward to continuing its close working relationship with the agency,” Mr Thornton said.
